Why Ager the ‘Orrible is Wrong! Wrong! Wrong!

Could this be citizen journalism at its ‘orriblest … what says you Mr Ager?

Rob Ager is a film analysist of some little renown on the internet. Everybody to their own, but personally I find his material not particularly well written, it’s verbose and frankly quite boring and unedifying. One of the problems is that Rob sees conspiracy – and not a little sex - in everything.

Here’s part of his analysis of The Matrix: “… our leaders are contradicting themselves by allowing millions of immigrants to flood into western countries at a time when we would expect them to limit immigration as a protective measure against terrorism … this is where the Matrix strikes an emotional and spiritual nerve. Just like Neo in the film’s opening, 21st century citizens know deep down that lies are being told on a grand scale that manipulates not only individuals ...”

Draconianly banning people from our green and pleasant land, though, is that something as a professional writer without an edge of prejudice to grind   would describe as ‘an emotional and spiritual nerve’? I think not.

 So, WRONG!

Having said that, in the interests of fairness I must point out that although I consider the above to be the ramblings of an inarticulate loose cannon with very little to offer to the worlds of literature and cinema, a lot of people on the Net do seem to like his work.

But why is that? Why has a conspiracy theorist who has tried to take on everybody from major film companies to big UK businesses - and lost to them all - become something of an internet guru?

The answer really is very simple… it’s because the internet is not controlled. It almost a certainty that Mr Ager would not get published in traditional form - books,  newspapers, magazines - and his wobbly analysis and theories  are unlikely to  even get on local radio.

Writing isn’t about becoming the best writer in the world, it’s about becoming the best writer in your own world.  People like Rob Ager actually dumb-down the standards of art and writing by being given free rein in the lawless pornographic world of the internet.

And talking about pornography, Mr Ager has been in a lot of trouble recently about his risqué amateur films.  A number of national newspapers in the UK ran stories a few months ago uncovering what they described as ‘the perverted video life of the chairman of Liverpool’s UK Independence Party’.  Yep, at that time Rob was involved with UKIP, perhaps not the most wholesome of political parties on the scene today. But it might explain a little of Rob’s diatribe on The Matrix.

Rob was apparently re-instated by UKIP after a perfunctory investigation and that sparked this silly man to start crowing that he’d beaten the national media into submission and got them to take down these damaging stories down from their websites.

Sadly, he’s wrong again. The stories are still up there! Links below.

WRONG!

Rob, who also says he has dreamt up his own education system for children, Collative Learning (The words actually means ecclesiastical knowledge, is that what you intended?)  stars in and directs films showing scenes of bondage, imprisonment and flagellation.

Rob, in his 30s, says he spends up to fifteen hours at a time writing reviews of films such as Clockwork Orange and Hellraiser. And the school failure’s reviews are so controversial – in one he accuses Jesus of being a child molester.

He has endured accusations on the internet of being a paedophile and pervert.

But films like his amateurish 21 minute feature, the Sex Game, made in 2004, about a half-naked man held in chains a Liverpool house, suffering sexual abuse and whippings don’t help his protestations.

He said of the paedophile accusations: “People were calling me a paedophile, pervert, asshole, idiot, retard, for having written a review. I found it fascinating and amusing that people would lower themselves to such tactics over differences of opinion about a fictional film.”

However, his films are inexplicably posted on children’s websites. Now this is very wrong indeed.

WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!

But one of his films is shocking for another reason, he admits he abandoned his father in a flat in Liverpool.  In a YouTube video, Rob admitted never visiting his dying father. Yet he has taken the carers to task over their treatment of his father, publishing attacks on them all over the internet. I’m not naming them here as I think that would be unfair.

But Rob does say on his site that a report has been compiled on his complaints. I wonder how honestly he would put the findings on the net. Let’s wait and see.  Rob has worked as a care worker.

He has had running battles with YouTube over his strange films and video reviews, has been taken to task by major film companies over copyright infringement. His material is regularly removed from the internet. Mr Ager must have got it wrong again then.

WRONG!

And there is also the little matter of his old film production company, Artifact Films, a ltd company registered to a small flat a few minutes walk from his home which stands opposite a primary school in the suburbs of Liverpool.  He made a few films, including the weird The Advisors, under the auspice of Artifact.

Company accounts for Artifact appear to be a little bit beyond the norm and may take a bit of working out. He is now working on another low budget film with a new film company Burnt Papyrus (that means destroyed ancient documents doesn’t it Rob?).

In conclusion: I’ve spent a bit of time investigating Mr Ager for a number of reasons (a) the weirdness of posting ‘bondage’ films on children’s website (something he has never addressed) (b) his unbridled attacks on organisations (c) his lack of legal knowledge and the inarticulacy of his rantings (d)  his complete lack of conscience about the potential damage he might do to businesses and honest people.
